On June 7, 2013, the Seventh Circuit issued its eagerly anticipated decision on the MISO’s regional cost allocation rate design rules for multi-value projects (MVPs). MISO’s first set of MVPs are valued at more than $5.5 billion, and MISO justified them in part on state RPS and the need to transmit wind energy from remote locations to load centers.

Feb. 5, 2013Midwest grid operator expanding south, to 'last frontier' for renewables

The Midwest’s electricity grid operator later this year is expected to add more than 15,000 miles of transmission and 30,000 megawatts of generation to its system overnight — at midnight, to be precise, on Dec. 18.

That’s the date MISO, pending a few remaining regulatory hurdles, will assume responsibility for operating the electric grid in much of Arkansas and Louisiana and parts of Texas and Mississippi.
